For Ages: 3 – 4 1/2 years old
The Daycare Room is pleased to provide a developmentally appropriate environment where children are cared for in a safe, fun , nurturing and stimulating environment .It is our philosophy to treat each child as a unique individual. Family and parenting is important to us. We work very hard to build interactive relationships with our parents to support you and have a better understanding of your child. We have a “Family Wall” in the room where we welcome pictures of your child with family members. The pictures are displayed and the children are very proud of and enjoy having family photos available.
Children in this program are aged 3 – 4 1/2 years old and their days are filled with play and fun while they develop skills in communication taking turns and sharing in a warm, fun atmosphere. The children are exposed to all areas of development including emotional growth, math, art, science, music, literacy, and physical exercise using small and large muscles with in our on site gym. Parents are responsible for providing a nutritious lunch sent in a lunch bag with an ice pack. The Cottage provides nutritional morning and afternoon snacks as well as Juice, water and or milk for all three eating times.
We have many centers of interest where the children spend time exploring and learning; here is a brief outline of some of the centers:
Quiet Center – reading, story/circle time
Floor Toys – blocks, dolls, action figures, trains and tracks, dinosaurs, animals
Art – painting, drawing, puppets, gluing and scissor practice
Science – books, magnifying glasses, magnets, binoculars, sea shells
Dramatic Play – costumes, play food, doctor kits, hair salon
Water/Sand Table – where the children are exposed to early science and math as they discover and play through measuring, pouring, counting scoops of water or sand and moulding
Table top activities – puzzles, games, tracing activities
Music – music is fun and therapeutic, we play a variety of music throughout the day, sing songs and play an assortment of instruments!
We use the emergent curriculum where all planned and unplanned activities are based on the interests, needs and abilities of each child. Observations are made throughout the day and we use these observations to plan activities the children are interested in to help them grow, gain self-confidence and independence. We love to go outside and explore nature, fresh animal tracks in the snow, the leaves changing colour and falling or budding in spring. We love to paint outside in the summer and create snow forts in winter. Fresh air and exercise are an important part of Cottage.
To enter this program, children must be fully toilet trained. This means they understand fully when they “need to go” and ask for assistance or have developed a level of self-confidence and will go on their own. Pull-ups or diapers are not permitted in the program – no exceptions.
